Overview: Quoting from PFI Webpage “The Pisgah Forest Institute (PFI) provides environmental instruction for educators. PFI is a cooperative effort between
Brevard College, the USDA Forest Service and the Cradle of Forestry in America Interpretive Association (CFAIA). PFI operates under the administration of the Appalachian Center for Environmental Solutions (ACES) at
Brevard College as part of the Education & Research Consortium of the Western Carolinas (ERC). Funding for Pisgah Forest Institute comes primarily from a Congressional grant procured by Congressman Charles
Taylor. PFI also has secured financial support from federal grants (including the Dwight D. Eisenhower Professional Development Grant), private industries (such as Progress Energy) and foundations. Contributions to
PFI are tax deductible. The PFI office is located on the Brevard College campus in Brevard, NC. Workshop classes are held on campus as well as at other nearby locations including the Pisgah National Forest. PFI
external support makes it possible to offer summer workshops at no charge to participants. Attendees are given supplies, equipment and a comprehensive resource notebook that can be readily used in the classroom.
Participants can earn continuing education units (CEU's) for each PFI workshop completed.”
