Miles

Miles Blanton is a graduate student at UNC-Chapel Hill. Miles is interested in using the PARI 26-m radio telescopes to measure Intraday Variables - but don’t let the name fool you. What this really means is that the radio emission from quasars experiences scintillation due to turbulent density fluctuations of our galaxy’s interstellar medium.  He is measuring the characteristics of the 26-m radio telescopes antennae and feeds as a first step. After understanding the 26-m efficiency he can then determine the extend to which his research can be done. Show below are two beam patterns. One was taken at 1420 MHz of Virgo A, the other at 4.8 GHz of the Tau A or the Crab Nebula.
