Jim

Jim Castelaz is entering his first year at Harvey Mudd College.  Jim has written the majority of the software we use at PARI. The table below shows the programs and status of each one. The software he has written involves everything from web pages to rotation matrices to controlling 12-bit 20 MHz A/D cards - a wide range of applications!

Here is a summary of each program:

  • Telecontrol = control of the two 26-m radio telescopes
  • Specon = Spectrometer control
  • SmileySpec = Control Smiley and Smiley’s spectrometer
  • XYMap = mapping routine that includes interface to 20 MHz A/D card, used specifically for holography of the radio telescope dishes.
  • BrightStar = control of a 5-inch Celestron NextStar and SBIG STV.  This program reads a file of 50 stars brighter than V=2.5 and points and measures the stellar magntiudes continuously 24-hours a day for seeing and transparency.
  • SolLunar = control of another Celestron NextStar 5 and SBIG STV for continuous imaging of the Sun and Moon for live streaming video to the internet.
  • FeedTemp = read temperature probe from 26-W feedbox via a 12-bit A/D converter
  • LunarSpec = Spectrometer Program for lunar occultations
  • Moon, Seasons, CDStartup = programs showing lunar phases, seasons, and CD startup interface: used on CDs given to teachers at workshops.
  • STVDoors:  control roll off roofs
  • WeatherStation = Visual Basic weather station interface
