Anna Castelaz is entering her Senior year at Science Hill High School in Johnson City, TN. Anna worked on the pointing model for the PARI 26-W radio telescope. She measured the positions of more than 60 radio sources at 1420 MHz over the course of the summer. Using the differences between the catalog and measured poistions, she calculated the pointing coefficients for flexure, alignment and perpendicularity of the axes, scale, and encoder eccentricity and phase angle. After applying the new constants the 26-W radio telescope now points to better than 5 arcminutes at 1420 MHz. For a copy of Anna’s report, click here.
